This is Simba, a 1 year old GSD mix. Simba came to us as a stray found wandering the streets. With our fingers crossed we hoped and waited the `stray hold period` in hopes his owners would come forward and reclaim him. After his hold period was over and he was still worth us staff and volunteers attempted to begin working with him. Simba is a very strong, hardheaded, stubborn, brilliant, and goofball of a dog. As you can probably imagine, due to this overwhelming mixture of traits our staff and volunteers quickly realized that Simba was going to require some special handling and training prior to finding his new forever home.
As soon as we noticed the difficulty we would have placing him in an appropriate home without some of the basic structure and training for Simba, we quickly reached out to our training partner Rob with NexGen K9 Training. Within 24 hours of placing this call, one of our staff members was in her car and on her way to Vallejo to meet with Rob at NexGen K9 Training who so graciously and openly welcomed Simba with open arms.
Now after only a few hours with Rob at NexGen K9 Training, we have already received an update that Simba is doing well and appears to be settling in nicely. He has already begun training and has gone from ripping, pulling, and lunging at the end of the leash to calmly walking on a loose leash and healing by his handlers side!!
We are by far impressed to see the quick improvement and are so anxiously waiting to see what else NexGen K9 Training can do with sweet Simba during the week. Please feel free to follow along with Simbas progress on NexGen K9 Training Facebook page. We will also try to keep updating our Facebook page as often as possible as well.
If interested in meeting Simba please call ahead!
