Albert is enjoying the comforts of a shelter home as he waits to be adopted. For information on meeting Albert, please email jpasfosterEB@gmail.com
Albert weighs under 16 pounds and was found stray in the UNO area. He is blind but our vet expects his sight to get better with treatment but I’m not sure if the hyperpigmentation on the corneas will improve with time letting him see better.
His foster says, "Albert is a super sweetie! This is my first time fostering and handling a special needs animal. My heart is sunken into him in only just a few days. I've been working with him every morning and evening in between my work schedule. His eyes are pretty bad but he's doing better everyday. The first couple of days he was very quiet, kept to himself, and I was sad he may be lonely. I put him in bed with us every night but he moves around a lot and I fear his depth perception is near slim to none. He doesn't really see me until I'm close enough to startle him, even when moving slowly. He does walk around the house and bumps into things here & there. We have a doggy door but he can't see below his height without looking down, so he's not lifting his legs to step out the door. I'm still working on it though. He does have allergies as all shi tzu's do, but I think he would benefit from an allergy pill like Apoquel. He sneezes a lot when we go for walks outside and he has some intense snoring. I trimmed the hair all around his eyes, and he's become much more social! I was very surprised at his behavior but happy too of course! Whomever wants to adopt him has to prove to have a heart of gold for animals before I let him leave me."
This pet is part of our Senior Discount Program! That means the adoption fee is waived, and the first six months of heartworm preventative is covered by the shelter! Adoption also includes vaccinations, mandatory spay/neuter, heartworm test, and microchip. He will need regular grooming to keep his coat in good condition.
