Angel was found when one of our Officers was out on a call regarding wildlife. She was almost hairless, filthy and covered in fleas. She had no hair on the back half of her body and what fur she did have at "shoulders" was a giant mat. She was in pain in her neck and belly area and cowered in fear and urinated on herself when approached.
We had Angel shaved down to make her more comfortable. It was discovered she had some sort of head injury at one time, there was evidence of a HOLE in her skull in the Xrays. She also had a broken toe which had healed incorrectly-sicking out to the side, and a pelvis fracture that had healed. Angel also had some apparent pain in her neck, which does not appear to be arthritis. She is on anti inflammatories and pain meds (as needed)and has improved drastically.
Angel had some surgeries recently. She has had 11 teeth removed which were broken (all her incisors) , she was spayed: her uterus was full of cysts, had an inguinal hernia repaired, and tumors removed which sadly, were malignant. Angel was diagnosed with Mammary Adenocarcinoma. We hope the removal of the tumors was in time, but we will not know for sure for sometime whether all the caner was gotten out of her body.
She is currently staying with me, and my 7 dogs and two cats. The first few days she had some issues-but she lacked confidence and socialization, but now everyone gets along just fine. Angel prefers her space, as providing other animals are respectful and don't run into her and roughhouse, all is well.
Angel is the best dog with children I have EVER met. She comes to the schools during our Community Outreach and Education Programs and just has the best time. She's all kisses and tail wags around ANY age child.
I promised Angel I would get her out of the situation she was in, and help her "start over". Please help me keep that promise. She may not be with us long, but she's loving, kind and deserves a family that will adore her.
Her photos show her progression in just four months of being in our care.
We invite you to come see all our adoptable pets here at the shelter! HCACC will often have more animals in house than posted online. If you don't see what you're looking for here, please contact us or come visit!
We are proud of our new "Play Area" for the Dogs! We encourage adopters to bring their current dogs if looking to add a new fur-member to their family so we can help you pick the right new pet for everyone in the household! Dogs can now interact with potential family members off leash in our "Adoption Pavilion"!
