Mom of 11 puppies
Athena is an adult German Shepherd mix female who was brought to the shelter as a pregnant dog. She gave birth to 11 puppies and remained in the shelter for 2 1/2 weeks before being rescued and taken into foster care with OPA. At that time, she was underweight, scared, and fighting a skin infection. Since then, she's cared for her puppies and been nurtured so that she can once again be a healthy dog. The puppies are weaned, she's eaten well and has gained weight, and her skin condition is being treated.
Athena loves to be with her people and will do well in a family where someone is home most of the day. She loves to be nearby and to have her owners gently caress her. She is gentle and affectionate, but is also playful with other adult dogs and has been mostly well-behaved around a cat. She is completely house-trained and will stand by the door to let you know she needs to go out. She knows basic commands such as "sit" for a treat and she walks on a leash. On long car trips she's been known to have an upset stomach, but she can tolerate short rides. Athena is very friendly to all people and other dogs.
This beautiful female dog would love to be a part of a family that can give her attention and include her in their daily happenings!
