Small  |  Female

Fort Lauderdale, FL

We can only imagine the life that Ava lived before coming to our rescue and we gather hints and clues from the condition she was found in. She seems to have been used primarily for breeding, confined to a crate with a hard surface where she developed calluses on her bottom. She had the most horrid yeast infection on her skin we've ever seen or smelled, had no hair on her tail, hind feet, chest and belly and was covered in filth. She contracted a tick-borne blood parasite that gave us quite a scare when we got her out of the shelter but she recovered beautifully after receiving medical treatment. After all this girl has endured in her life, she has yet to meet a person she doesn't absolutely love. Even with frequent vet visits and being poked, prodded, x-rayed, she gets so excited to visit the doctor and greets all the nurses and staff with such love. She loves being near her people, snuggling up under a cozy blanket and is so happy to play fetch with her stuffed toys and adorably trots back with them in her mouth. She listens really well and enjoys working for delicious treats. Ava is estimated to be about 6-7 yrs old, 26 lbs, she is house trained and crate trained. As we think she was raised primarily for breeding purposes, Ava didn't have the chance to socialize with other dogs in a positive way. She is learning that other dogs aren't a threat and while she lives in a foster home with other dogs, she has her own space that is gated off. We are working with a trainer to help her improve on her doggy socialization skills. Ava would love to be the one and only in your life. This loving, affectionate girl deserves to be spoiled and doted on for the rest of her life. If you think you can be the special someone for Ava, please complete an application at
