Banjo may be classified as a senior, but he's really a teenage boy at heart. He loves to eat, walk, play, snooze, and repeat! This goofy guy LOVES treats and will happily go through his repertoire of tricks to get a morsel! Banjo knows sit, down, stay, shake, high five, and more! Since he is so food motivated, he is a great dog to train. That's why he was chosen as a candidate for the Canine Good Citizen program at APA! Canine Good Citizens learn skills that help them be polite and well-mannered in public, including ignoring other dogs and meeting new people calmly. Banjo learned his CGC skills so quickly that he is already CGC Ready. The final step to becoming a Canine Good Citizen is for Banjo to pass the test with his owner when adopted! Check out a video about CGC: http://player.vimeo.com/video/89434193 Since he's really a 13-year-old boy trapped inside a ten-year-old dog's body, Banjo loves being active and has a lot of energy for a dog his age. He loves walking on the trail and swimming in Town Lake. You can see the pure joy on his face when he splashes around in the water! Banjo walks perfectly on a leash, never pulling or running after squirrels. He will make a very good walking companion for his lucky adopter. Banjo enjoys playing with sticks and tennis balls here and there, but his favorite games involve treats. He is so smart and eager to please that playtime is fun for both of you. Banjo always has a smile on his face--he's just a happy-go-lucky kind of guy! Banjo would likely do best as the only dog in your home. He was cat tested within the shelter environment, with a cat safely enclosed in a large space and Banjo on leash. He showed high initial interest in the cat but softened and obeyed obedience commands while still focused on the cat. Based on the assessment, he has shown the possibility of living successfully with a cat with a firm training plan in place to fully integrate the animals over time. If you're looking for a smart, silly, active, and cuddly canine companion who will adore you, look no further than Banjo!
