Captain Jack is an adorable Powderpuff Chinese Crested dog. He's four years old and weighs about 16 pounds. You can see from his pictures his long coat and his summer cut, both are adorable. And, like poodles, powderpuffs don't shed, which is a great feature of this breed!
Jack is a fluffy cuddlebug who loves to run and play, and be silly. His favorite thing to do is play fetch. He is also very expressive, and makes some cute moans and grunts when he's happy. He is so cute when he's "chatty."
Captain Jack really likes to be with his person/people, and attached to his foster mom within about a day or so. So it didn't take long. Jack is a sensitive dog, and wary of new people and situations. When meeting new people, he needs a calm, leashed introduction and to be ignored. Within a short amount of time, he relaxes and curiosity takes over. Jack will need owners that understand ongoing training will help him be more comfortable with visitors to the home.
We would like to see Jack adopted to a quiet, loving home, where he can have a pretty constant routine without a lot of people coming and going from the house. He is gated in the laundry room while his foster mom is at work. He gets a mid-day potty break every day. He gets along fine with the other dogs, and and will play and run zoomies with them in the yard. He is also being fostered with two dog-savvy cats, and although he's curious and chases after them once in a while, he coexists with them quite well. Jack would do best in a home with a very confident, balanced playmate as a good role model.
Jack will need a secure fenced-in yard. This will aid in his transition to a home, but also, he has a strong prey drive and would take off after a squirrel or chase a car in a heartbeat! He is definitely not an off-leash kind of dog unless he has a fence. Although he does love walks, he is perfectly content with yard time to do his business. He is reactive on the leash to other people and animals on our walks, so needs more training in this area.
Jack would be a wonderful candidate for obedience training. He's young, and eager to learn and please, and would bond very well to his owners through the training process. He already knows "sit" and is practicing "stay," and has an extensive curiosity about any sentence that starts with, "you wanna..." And when I call him, he always comes running!
Captain Jack is being fostered in Greenville, SC. Any adopter must be within driving distance, as he is not a candidate for cargo transport and he is too large to fly in cabin.
