10/10/2012 On Friday, October 5th, 2012, WRS was notified about two weims in a Louisiana shelter, one with a leg so badly broken that he could not walk and the local vet recommended amputation. Poor Carson had been in the shelter for 5 days without receiving any medical care. We cannot fathom the pain he must have been in. WRS volunteers in several states sprung into action and, within 48 hours, Carson and Jessie were in Birmingham, where Carson could get much needed surgery to save his leg. Carson had his surgery on Oct. 8th and the doctors expect him to make a very good recovery, although not suitable as anyone's running partner. Throughout all his trials, Carson has been incredibly sweet and gentle. Fortunately, Carson is heartworm negative. It will be several weeks before Carson will be ready for a foster or forever home and we will post more about him in the coming weeks.
