My name is Charlie and I am part Hound and part something else, perhaps Basset, as I have a short and stocky body. My hair is golden-colored and I’m very handsome!
I was adopted but I’m now coming back to 11th Hour Rescue. Here are some things that my former family would like you to know about me:
With people, Charlie has never shown aggression (no nipping, biting, growling, hair raised, ears back or barking - in fact, he rarely barks). My kids were 8 and 11 when we brought him home; although he never played with them as much as he played with me. I have never taken him around infants/toddlers, so I do not know how he would react. With visitors, he is a little too enthusiastic - he doesn't jump but does think everyone should pet him. So I would say a home with older children would be ok. He's a champ at the vet - no problems there.
With me, Charlie is very easy-going and affectionate. He likes sleeping in and naps in the sun in the backyard. He loves the snow and a backyard to zoom around in, especially if there are squirrels to chase (although he's never caught one). He *loves* going on walks - and is waiting at the door as soon as I get the leash out. With regular walks, he does well on a leash (if you skip a few days, he pulls on the leash for a bit. I use a harness). He's also a fair-weather dog - he doesn't like going out in the rain (snow is fine, though) so no muddy paw-prints or wet-dog smell!
Charlie is a fairly quiet dog - rarely barking or whining, and mostly will just follow me from room to room around the house when I'm home. He loves to chew (we've trained him no shoes/socks, and we give him lots of chew toys). He also loves tug - toys (knotted ropes) and we play tug-of war (he is pretty strong). His all-time favorite toy is a Kong in which you can hide treats, and then he knocks it around to get the treats out. When he's excited, he's a zoomer/turner - he'll race around the yard or turn in circles. He's a leaner and a nudger - he'll lean against you while you're watching tv looking for an ear scratch (and give you a nudge if he wants more).
Charlie is well housebroken - never had *any* accidents and clearly indicates when he needs to go outside. He does know basic commands (come, sit, down, wait and go-upstairs (that's where his bed is)).
I promise that if you adopt me, I’ll be a great family dog! The only thing is that I need to be the only pet in the household. But with me in your life, you won’t need any other pets!! I have plenty of love all by myself! And it would be wonderful if I had a fenced-in backyard to play around in, too. Don’t I sound like a great addition to your household?
If you can give me the home & family I’ve always wanted, please fill out an adoption application and arrange to meet me. I am looking forward to having a forever home where I can love & be loved. Be sure to ask for me by name - CHARLIE HOUND!
