Chattering squirrels usually means there is a cat near by. It took a while before we saw him. He moved between yards and was usually sighted around 5 pm. After a few weeks we spotted him reclining on a woodpile but he would run when we approached. His buff color made him highly visible and we soon noticed that his long tail was dragging on the ground. Soon he was coming into the yard to eat at the feeding station but he seemed very timid and would run as soon as he saw us. Finally we were able to trap him and get him to the Vet. That's where we found out that someone had put a band on this tail probably to try to make him a bobtail. It must have been very painful since the band was pressing on the blood vessel and nerves. No wonder he was timid. People had hurt him and he associated them with pain. After a trip to the Vet and a 2 week recovery period, Chewie is now a health, playful kitty and yes he does have a Bobtail. But he doesn't seem to hold any grudges. He loves attention and people. He plays all the time and he will climb right up on your shoulder. Chewie has a rough start. That is why we want to find him a very special home.
