Chill-Pepper is a shy girl that has managed to maintain her sweet nature despite years of neglect and abandonment. She came to us severely malnourished, with many injuries and illnesses due to being on her own for so long. However, she bravely battled her way back to health and settled into enjoying life with a family.
Chill-Pepper, or "Thumper" as we sometimes call her due to the fact that she thumps her tail when we walk by, enjoys attention by is very shy about seeking it. She still dips her head a little when someone tries to pet her, but will accept the attention with a big smile. Recently, as her health, improved she has started to "frisk" a bit when happy. This girl is about 9 years old and housebroken. She responds well to basic spoken commands and is learning new ones all the time. We haven't observed any bad habits, but because she had to find anything edible to survive, she will take food that is left within her reach unguarded. This has only happened a couple of times. It is obvious that Chill-Pepper often had to defend her meal, but she is food safe with humans. We can reach down and touch her bowl while she is eating. She will try to move it, but has never shown aggression. We've never observed her guarding her food from our dog. They eat comfortably in the same room, each respecting the other's bowl. She definitely is not an alpha dog. She is intimidated by strange dogs but is learning to walk past fenced yards and barking dogs. She lives well with our dog, but he is a very quiet gentle boy himself. Chill-Pepper will be a wonderful companion for anyone willing to offer her a serene lifestyle where she can feel safe and loved. She will do best either as an only pet or with others as quiet and gentle as herself. She's lived enough of her life in fear.
