Umbrella of Hope "Be Our Pet"
Special Needs Kitten
***PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION IN ITS ENTIRETY. If you cannot be bothered to read what we have written regarding the home we are looking for then we cannot be bothered to have one of our all-volunteer team respond***
Daisy Duke is part of our Cats of Hazzard litter. You can follow them on their own page on Instagram @catsofhazzard. Daisy is not ready for adoption quite yet, but we are searching for her perfect home in the interim.
We are raising funds to cover the costs of sending these cats to specialists here: https://www.gofundme.com/catsofhazzard or you can PayPal us at www.paypal.me/UOH
Daisy was born around 9/1/2016 with several defects to the bones in her hind limbs. She has tentatively been diagnosed with bilateral femoral head hypoplasia plus tibial and metatarsal agensis/hypoplasia... pretty much this means she is missing bones in her lower legs.
This does not stop her. She runs, scoots, climbs cat trees, wrestles with the other kitties and purrs like she has a motor in her throat. Her only restriction is that she MUST be indoor-only unless directly supervised in a contained area (watching you garden while you are outside with her in a fenced yard and going back inside when you do).
She DOES use the litterbox. Due to her size (she is 1 lb at six weeks old), she is currently unable to climb into a regular one, so we have made her a modified one. We expect that once she is ready for adoption she will have grown enough to use a regular litterbox.
She LOVES other cats and loves to wrestle with them. She also loves the pitbull that belongs to her foster mom and should be fine with dogs who are gentle with cats. She also loves people.
While she is not quite ready for adoption because she is too young AND we are trying to get her seen by the specialists at the local Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis to ensure that she will be fine long-term and does not need any interventions... we are accepting interest on her.
We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Normally, we expect adopters to come to us to adopt. However, we would be willing to raise the funds to escort her in the cabin of an airplane to any major US airport to get her to a forever home if that home was STELLAR or if she was going to live with someone who has the same condition (or a similar one) that she does.
We DO expect adopters of this litter to keep up on their social media accounts and this is a condition of their adoption (we can teach you) because we are huge proponents of special needs adoptions and we need animals like the Cats of Hazzard to be out there and be proud and show other people that being different is okay and that adopting an animal with special needs is NOT scary. We want people to be inspired to adopt the animals who are not "perfect" (although perfect is relative) so that animals like Daisy have the option of being adopted and not euthanized.
She will be spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated prior to adoption. She is free of parasites. We hope to have her evaluated at UC Davis by a specialist in the near future.
Interested parties should send a DETAILED email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can start the conversation to see if your home is a good match for her and work out the details. We expect she will be ready to go to his new home in December.
