DARCY HAS BEEN ADOPTED.
This spunky little gal is Darcy, a Westie/Schnauzer mix female with enough moxie for a dog many times her size. She was turned into an overcrowded rural county dog shelter by her owners who said they were moving and not taking her with them. At 8-10 years of age, it’s tough for a dog to start over but Darcy took one day at a time and didn’t let her predicament get her down. Her owners did not provide her with much veterinary care as she came into the shelter with one eye in horrible shape. The pupil of one of her eyes was bright red at all times due to bleeding in the eyeball. Once she arrived here with us, trips to multiple veterinary clinics including a canine opthalmologist led us to the conclusion that her red eye should be removed. That was done several months ago and Darcy has recovered very well. She has cataracts in her remaining eye so has limited vision but gets around amazingly well even though she can likely only see shadows. In spite of being a senior, Darcy has no problem with her hearing. She sure responded to the squeaky toys that were used during her photo session. That sense seems to have stepped up to compensate for her limited vision. Darcy forms very strong attachments to her people so would love to have a home where someone is around much of the time. She loves to snuggle on the couch with her foster mom but is not your typical couch potato senior dog. Darcy also loves to go for walks and run around the yard. Once she figures out where things are she navigates the terrain very well. Darcy gets along with some dogs but can be very bossy with others. She likes to snarl and growl at the large American Bulldog in her foster home so she is not lacking in bravado! Darcy has done well with housetraining in her foster home so should pick up the routine in her new home quickly. She weighs about 15 pounds and her adoption fee is $125. Darcy’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in Darcy. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
