Davey is a very handsome long haired grey tabby with sparkling white accents. He may be part Maine Coon. Davey is super affectionate and loves to curl up on your lap for tummy rubs, head butts, purrs, and paw kneading. He gets along well with dogs and with other cats but Davey is FIV positive and should be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. FIV depletes the number of white blood cells and over many years can make the cat less able to fight off infection. However, the virus is so slow acting that many FIV positive cats enjoy a normal lifespan with no apparent health problems from the virus. FIV is species specific – it can only be transmitted from cat to cat – not to humans or dogs.
The virus is present in the blood and saliva of infected cats but it is a very “fragile” virus and can’t survive for long outside body. It also requires a high dose of virus to cause an infection in another cat. As a result, it is not easily passed from one cat to another. The primary means of infection is from a deep puncture wound bite from an infected cat to an uninfected cat. FIV can not be transmitted indirectly, such as on food, dishes, clothes, shoes, hands, etc.
Davey is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations until August 2017, and been treated with flea preventative and dewormed.
