Diesel, also known as Max, is a 10-year-old, 59-pound German Shepherd. He doesn't know he's a "senior" dog and hasn't slowed down one bit. He's the best of both worlds, combining playful puppy energy with adult skills like house-training and behaving while riding in the car. He's a great companion for long walks and playtime. Bursting with enthusiasm, Diesel could use some work on his leash skills. He can sometimes be reactive to other dogs when on leash, but he is getting better.
He is super smart and takes treats gently from your hand, so teaching him new things will be fun. He'll shake if you ask for his paw and sit if you have a tasty treat. He loves affection and will go belly up for scratches, lovingly laying his head in your lap. Diesel's foster home includes a dog-savvy cat, and they are the best of friends.
Diesel is going to thrive in a home with an active, loving person looking for a dog that's full of personality. Because of his excitability, he would do best in a home without very small children but he does great with the teenagers in his foster home. He would do well with another dog who doesn't mind his playful energy. Diesel's friendliness will undoubtedly charm you. He gives gentle kisses and loves making you smile.
Diesel came to us from Monterey County Animal Services after being picked up as a stray.
