Dozer will fill your heart with love! This true gentle giant is an amazing dog. He loves to meet and greet new people at the shelter. Even when someone is "just looking" we introduce everyone to Dozer and they are all amazed at his kindness and calmness. We are all so proud of him! Because he is a true King of his castle, Dozer has his own real twin sized bed at the shelter with his Jeweled Crown nameplate on the headboard and it is not uncommon to find one of us snuggled up next to him on it while visiting!
Dozer is loving and obedient, patient, soft and gentle with everyone. He is a big guy, and therefore, due to his size, he should not be in a home with children! Dozer comes when he is called, sits on command and walks nicely on leash. He has so much to offer! Like many dogs, he has his likes and has one dislike.....cats! He cannot be placed into a home with kitties nor other small animals. He does like most other dogs but cannot be paired with an overly active dog in his new home...here's why!
When we first met Dozer, he was not the guy he is today. He was very thin and in pain from arthritis in his knees, something he has had for quite some time but was never treated in his previous home. He could barely walk. All he needed was some good food, supplements and pain medication and some TLC from our staff! Today, Dozer can not only walk....he can RUN!!! He is a beautiful sight to behold when he gallops across the play yard to greet you! Because of his physical limitations, we do try to keep his activity to a minimum, but sometimes he just can't resist! He loves to go for rides in our SUV but does require help to get in and out. He is 150 pounds and still a bit under weight for his breed, but he should be kept at this weight to reduce the stress on his knees.
Dozer will need a home with a large yard, preferably fenced so that he can roam freely and be safe. He will require his medications and supplements daily and a high-quality, grain-free diet. He is a velcro dog and will want your constant companionship, so someone who is home or a retired couple would be a perfect fit for him. We just cannot say enough good things about him, he is perfect, of course, in our eyes!
If you think you can offer the type of home, love and devotion this dog needs, please research his breed to be sure he would be a good fit for you, your family, your lifestyle and your home! Then, give us a call and ask for Pat or Lucille! We dare you not to fall in love with him!!!
