Meet Duke! Duke came from a high kill shelter where his owner who was dying from cancer surrendered his dog in hopes that he would be cared for. Duke's foster mom was told about his predicament when he was listed to be euthanized. The shelter told foster mom that Duke was 9 years old but we are thinking him to be 6-7 years old. He is super over weight at 160 lbs and with light exercise and a diet he is quickly shedding the pounds. Duke is heartworm positive and with his age is on the slow kill regimen that is easy on his heart and other body systems so he can slowly heal. This won't stop Duke from finding his amazing forever home! Duke loves to lounge on the couch and if he could get up on the bed he would likely lounge there too. He loves following his foster mom from room to room as she does things around the house. He seems to do well with other dogs (small, medium, and large) however he needs to be in a home with no cats or a home that keeps their cats separate. Duke has this sad puppy dog eyes that will really tug at your heart strings. He still is quite active and enjoys play time too! Don't wait.... This gentle giant needs to find his forever home where he will be loved and cherished just the way that he deserves.
*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. We require a fenced yard (exceptions made on a case by case basis - NO exceptions for puppies or deaf/vision impaired dogs - no invisible fencing), that stairs in the home be covered with some sort of slip resistant material to prevent injury, that all other animals in the home be up to date on vaccinations as well as spayed/neutered and that all dogs live inside as a part of the family. Our approval process consists of an application, vet and reference checks, phone interview and house check. Please email us for an application or if you have any questions.*****
