What is a Mischievous Mutt???
The Mischievous Mutt program is HSU''s initiative to successfully place dogs with some behavioral challenges. This program allows us to place these dogs for adoption although they may require a little extra training & patience to help them become the best canine companions they can be. They are not bad dogs but need a special type of family to ensure they will thrive in their new home.
What makes this dog a Mischievous Mutt?
A class clown at heart Echo is full of plenty of get up & go. This tall, dark, & handsome guy has enough personality to knock you off your feet, he gets a little carried away with his enthusiasm sometimes & can be rather ungentlemanly. He will need a patient family who will take the time to teach Echo proper doggie etiquette, including a healthy dose of impulse control to learn not to demand his people to play, but to ask nicely instead. While Echo does well with most dogs, his pushy, bouncy play style may be too much for some dogs. He would do best with dogs his same size & speed who are well socialized & can help teach him the ropes of being a part of family. He is just waiting for the perfect home who will be patient with him & set him up to succeed.
What is recommended to make this adoption successful?
Formal training is strongly recommended. There are many trainers to choose from. We recommend doing your homework to find a trainer who uses science-based positive training methods & has previous experience training dogs with similar behaviors as the dog you''re adopting. We work closely with a certified animal trainer & highly recommend her services. Any animal adopted from HSU will receive a 25% discount on any services offered. Ample mental stimulation (training) & exercise daily are a must. Echo is an active boy & will require an active family to best fit his needs. Knowledge of the breeds are a must. Dogs with Echos high-strung nature are not for everyone. He will be best with experienced dog owners.
ALL Mischievous Mutt adoptions are finalized by our behavior department. o
