I Am Not Dusty, and I Do Not Smell of Raisins
“Hello! I’m Fresno, and I’m a guy, and I’m orange and white – with a bib. I think I’m handsome, don’t you? People say I’m 2 or 3 years old. I say I’m friendly. I belong on a plush deep blue shag rug where I can lay and show off my handsome-ness.”
“Someone named animal control sent me here, said I was out wandering around with no apparent purpose and with no chaperone. That may be – but I say, ‘So what?’ I was, indeed, on my own where I learned to respect myself and defend myself. I’m good at it. If you sling curse words at me, whether in Feline or Human, I will give you a solid hiss. Not a swat, just a hiss. We are all creatures on this earth, and we need to respect each other. If I respect you, please respect me, too.”
“My speech for the day. Now, then, I’m into naps – real cat naps – good food, affection, and long, rambling stories of days on the road. I suppose I got my name – Fresno – from the town, now city, out on old Highway 99. But, the place is dusty, and it smells of raisins. I am not – and I do not. I may have once been Joaquin Murrieta’s feline partner, but I’m not ‘fessing. But you can call me Joaquin if you like.”
“I am handsome and warm, and I keep myself very clean and ice cream sweet. I’d love to be your personal, forever cat. Stop and pet me – see how soft I am. Golly, I think I am ready to be your cat! Wow! Are you ready to be my person – my people? All it takes is $120 in human exchange media. How about we do it?”
