GAIGE IS BEING FOSTERED IN HOUSTON, TX. He is available for out-of-state adoption.
Hey everyone, I'm Gaige and I'm very happy to meet you. I'm so happy that I'm out of the shelter and that I can hold my head up. In fact, you can pretty much just say, I'm very happy. I have the best smile, which I display most of the time. I'm a very easy going dog, ready to go with the flow. I do get a little nervous when I'm in a strange place or with strangers, but as soon as I get a chance to meet everyone, they are no longer strangers and I'm anxious to be friends. My foster mom says that I have moderate energy. Not sure how that is defined, but I have tiny spurts of energy and then, I'm ready to calm right down. I don't need lots of exercise: a short walk around the block and I'm good. I am a very loyal and affectionate dog. I like to be with my people and I'm a bit of a shadow, because I'll follow you from room to room. However, despite loving to be petted, I am very good at leaving you alone and letting you concentrate on your own activity. I'll just check on you from time to time, to make sure that you don't need my help, but otherwise, I am content to just hang around. Did I mention that I sometimes prefer to ride in the car rather than walk? I love riding in cars. Sight-seeing from the passenger side is loads of fun. So all in all, I'm one great guy, if I do say so myself. Would you like to meet me? Please contact info@redcollar.org

Please note that this dog is being fostered in HOUSTON, TX. The Houston area adoption fee is $200. Out of state adoption is available. About half of our adoptions are to out-of-area adopters. The out-of-state adoption fee is $550 ($600 Canadian), which includes air transport, traveling crate, and health certificate. RCR takes care of all of the flight arrangements. Because of the distance, it is not possible for you to meet the dog, in person, unless you come to Houston. We can often send videos and/or do FaceTime interviews to allow you to “meet” the dog.
Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston?
Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. City and County shelters often take in a combined 200-300 animals per day. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. Houston is estimated to have over 1 million homeless animals. Over 100,000 are killed in Harris Co shelters every year. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!
