My name is GUS, and I was an owner surrender. In case you’re wondering why my profile says I have “special needs,” I won’t leave you hanging in suspense very long… I’m ***DEAF***, and will need a very special forever home (but we’ll talk more about that further down). When I was baby, I was adopted by a family that loved me very much. Sadly, a time came when they could no longer properly care for me and they did their best to rehome me twice to a new forever family. The first home had kitties, and I quickly learned I don’t like kitties very much. My owner lovingly brought me back home, and set out their search for my second try. I don’t remember much about that home, because I wasn’t there very long; animal control picked me up the next morning running down a very busy road with my leash and collar on. I was so scared, especially since I didn’t know where I was, didn’t recognize anyone, and couldn’t hear cars and people trying to catch me. My owner picked me up from the animal shelter, and started networking one last time. That’s when HHFR found me!! Now I’m safe and will never be in a shelter ever again. I am great with dogs of all sizes and ages, and I love kids! I still don’t like kitties, so it’s best if my forever home doesn’t have cats. I’m very young, so new people, places, and experiences are very scary for me. Since I can’t hear, I’m startled easily and take some time to come out of my shell. Being DEAF doesn’t slow me down though. I’m a fun loving, hyper young boy who would do best with a doggie brother or sister with a similar energy level to help further develop my social skills. I am quickly learning hand commands like no, good boy, come, down, sit, and a special sign for my name! My house training is going really well, but I’m still young and have accidents sometimes. I am crate trained, but have some separation anxiety. When I haven’t been able to get all of my energy out, or I’m really nervous, I will bark in my kennel. I will need a family who is willing to work on leash training with me, and understands that I will have certain challenges for the rest of my life that my non-hearing impaired doggy friends won’t have to worry about. If you’d like to learn more about adopting me, please submit an adoption application or email inquiry online!

The adoption fee includes vaccinations, bordetella, deworming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is an additional $10.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. If adopting a puppy, the rabies and spay/neuter will be done at the same time by our vet once they are 4 months old and billed to us. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.
