GOTTA READ HIS STORY!!! POSSIBLY PART MAINE COON!
OCT 11, 2016:
Hardy is a male (now neutered) who is probably 8-10 years old. He is a very large orange tabby who we feel will be long-haired when his coat finishes growing out. We strongly suspect he is part Maine Coon. His tail is a foot long!!!
He turned up at our spay/neuter/return colony a few months ago. He was in horrible shape, emaciated, and completely encrusted in black filth with obvious mouth issues. For a couple of weeks, he just laid in the woods and would not let anyone get close to him. He was not coming in for food, so there was no way to trap and help him. He must have been taking in some food after the feeders left, because one day he met us when we came to feed like he was starving, and walked right into a carrier. We immediately took him to the vet for testing, being fairly sure the vet would recommend euthanasia. However, he tested negative for FeLv and FIV, and the vet found that most of his problems were in his mouth, ulcers, infected tongue, bad teeth. He could eat only with difficulty, and he couldn't clean himself at all.
He had to be totally shaved, and eventually had to have most of his teeth pulled. He is now a new cat, has gained his weight back, and his coat is slowly growing out. He is looking for a forever home where he will gets lots of attention, preferably on a lap. He loves people and is good both inside and out. He is very familiar with a pet door and has obviously used one in the past. Hardy would probably be best as an only pet, as he can be very territorial. He wants all your attention.
