Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie

Small  |  Female

Palo Alto, CA

Our rescue will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express Saturday, October 22nd from 1-4pm and Sunday, October 23rd from 12-3pm. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped.
* If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted:

This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, October 22nd from 1-4pm and Sunday, October 23rd from 12-3pm or until adopted. However, we do meet with those who submit an application and are approved just prior to the event (by invitation only) and they are given the first opportunity to adopt. If you are interested in one of our dogs, we recommend filling out an application prior to the event to be considered. Applications submitted within 24 hours of the event may not necessarily be reviewed.
Harper is a 2 year old Sheltie-Dachshund-Long haired Chihuahua. She weighs 10.6lbs. She is a tiny little girl who was turned into the shelter with another dog and they were huddled up against the back of the shelter cage as far away as they could get praying that no one would notice them. They were scared out of their minds. Harper is going to need a home that is confident. If there's another confident dog BONUS!!! She will eventually learn from another confident dog. She also needs a home that is willing to really dote on her. Usually we say leave a shy dog alone and let them come to you but in her case the minute you pick her up she clings to you for dear life. So she is one that will need someone who is willing to pick her up, willing to hold her close, willing to really dote on her and build her up.
Harper clearly gets along well with other dogs. If a home wants a dog who walks, then they will have to be a confident leader when walking and be up for the challenge of guiding a shy dog out in the world. She is a dog who is small enough she could be a purse dog so she hangs out in the purse but isn't subjected to folks touching her all the time. She could be worn in a sling or in a little papoose up front. She's that kind of dog.
Harper is not a dog for an inexperienced home. She definitely has to have that home that has raised dogs, knows dogs and has a real understanding of them. Harper is not an option for small children. She'd be scared to death of them. If there are older kids who have always had dogs and mom and dad have a keen understanding that Harper is going to be an adult dog, then we will consider older kids in the home.
Harper can live with a nice cat. She will just be scared of the cat!
Harper is an option for a home that has had a dog in the last 3 years. If there are children they must be over the age of 14.

**Not all of our dogs go to each adoption event. We want to make sure if you are interested in a dog that we have the dog at adoptions but that can only happen if you fill out an application ahead of time and are pre-approved. (Generally this must happen prior to the weekend)
**If you are wanting to submit an application within 24 hours of an event, please print off the application and bring with you as well as submitting it. You may still submit it and if time and volunteers permit, we will contact you. Most applications submitted the weekend of adoptions are not responded to until after the adoption weekend.
