Hope was rescued as a stray after she was dumped in rural part of South Carolina. She was taken in by two Good Samaritans, who are also neighbors, after she appeared running free in their neighborhood. She was very fearful initially and shied away from them for weeks. They saw her almost hit by a car on multiple occasions and living off scraps, and dreaded coming home from work imagining something bad had happened to her. They came up with a plan to catch her, and these two good souls took Hope in, sharing responsibility for her care since July, working together to prepare her to go to her new home.
Hope has lived as a foster with both families, living with their small and large dogs of varying ages, and she does well with them all. She gets a little anxious when she has to change homes, and is longing for a permanent home and family of her own. Her foster moms describe Hope as a very sweet dog who quickly fits into the pack, and loves people. She's a snuggle bug once she settles in, and loves her squeaky toys. She will make a great family dog and would love to have a pup companion to pal around with.
We believe Hope is about 2 years old, weighs 52lbs, and is some kind of Black Lab mix. She has a medium energy level and needs her daily exercise, and is also learning to walk on a leash. Her foster moms have been practicing, and she matches strides with the other dogs when they walk as a pack. She’s housetrained, crate trained, and will go into the crate when it’s time for her foster mom to go to work. They’ve been sharing the same crate so that Hope has a familiar, safe place to rest, and some continuity when she changes homes. They’ve also been taking her to PetSmart, Home Depot, and a local dog park to make sure she gets plenty of socialization.
This sweet girl has won a place in their hearts and they want what’s best for her. They contacted DDB to help her find her a great loving home, and that's our plan. She will be coming to Northern Virginia very soon.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to http://foster.ddbnova.org and fill out an application.
