Please fill out an application form. DON'T fill out the email or other choices here. http://awos.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html has the application link on the front page. If we do not receive an application your email will be deleted. Our time is spent caring for these dogs, sometimes as many as 30 - 40 dogs at a time, and you show us serious intent to adopt when you take the time to fill out the application. Thank you for your understanding.
If there is a date next to the dog's name that is the expected arrival date. EVERYTHING we know about these dogs is on their bio. Please don't email asking for more info - we don't have any.
Please bookmark the site so YOU can check on the dog's status, updates if any etc. That's where we put everything we know about them.
We do not adopt to homes with no fenced area for the dog. They are a flight risk in the early weeks and we have the same goal - a safe, happy, healthy dog.
Sept 11/16 Our perfect hubert is still sitting here waiting for a home. He is a healthy dog with years to go. This is what his fosters say:
What else can we say about our wonderful Hubert? He is just the easiest, funniest, most loving guy. I kinda forget he hasn't been here forever, even though it's only been a couple of months. Hubert is as comfortable as an old pair of slippers and would be happy anywhere he was loved. These older guys just fit into the grove of the household.
Hubert gets on spectacularly with everyone and everything. He loves his raw food, has no interest in our two cats (much to their delight) and respects our two smaller dogs. He has been instrumental in helping our other foster come out of her shell. He's not particularly interested in Suzee, but is content to let her take comfort by being in close proximity to him. All my four grandkids (ages 2 to 11) think he's great.
Hubert has no desire to sleep upstairs with us and can't be enticed by carpeting or a comfortable dog bed. He loves to crash on the hardwood floor under the dinning room table, or on the vinyl floor under the kitchen table, and adjusts both the tables and chairs to his liking. The rooms always looks like someone shouted "fire" and everyone jumped out of their chairs and ran, but I can say this big guy is never underfoot!
Hubert is truly always happy and smiling. He greets you with unbridled enthusiasm and a happy dance. Best of all, he nearly does the meringue when you pick up his leash for a walk.
It makes me laugh when I give Hubert a belly rub. He always has a certain spot that needs attention and uses his mouth and paws to direct your hand to the exact spot. You know you've got it right when he stops pushing and pawing and puts his head down with a big sigh.
This handsome boy has a lot of life and a ton of love left to give to the to the right family. If we could only train him to vacuum up his hair, he'd be absolutely perfect!
Take a second look at this wonderful companion.
Aug 1/16 I don't get. This dog is just great, the best for any adult who wants company and a buddy to walk with or a family with young kids who take a lot of time. Hubie loves walks, is interested in ANYTHING going on and is also content to lie out in the yard watch the world go by. He is on raw diet and there is no reason this healty dog can't go to 15yrs or so
July 11/16 Hubert has spent the last few weeks in my house til a foster became available. He is just perfect, really a walk in. He would be perfect too for a senior cuz he so gentle, so aware of his space and yours, would never knock a person or kid down not even for a cookie. He walks loose leash, no pulling, no pushing - an 80 yr old can walk him.
He is from a Quebec rescue, dumped at this age because they were moving to the states, Hello? all you need is a rabies certificate to cross the border but i bet anything they bought a condo with dog weight restrictions. HOW DO PPL SO THAT??
this is what his foster mom has to say:
If you've never had a senior dog, you don't know what you're missing. If you have, then you know they are spectacular.
I get these guys aren't for everyone, but believe me, sooner than you want to think, they will be the dog for you.
Hubert walked into my house like he'd lived here forever, and we'd just come back from the mailbox. He is sooo happy and content. These guys don't ask for anything, and they're so easy peasy. In one hour you feel like you've known them forever. Fostering Hubert is like having a dear old friend come for a visit.
Hubert is just happy all the time, smiles constantly, and his tail wags non-stop. He has some arthritis, but it doesn't slow him down. He loves to follow you around the house and LOVES his walks. He hikes at a good clip, but likes to stop frequently to check his "pee mail". I'm just happy to see him engaged and enjoying himself.
These guys are perfect for retired or semi-retired people. Hubert is totally low maintenance, but craves companionship and gets along with everyone and everything.
Right now, Bill and I are sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. Hubert and my two guys are doing the same. Life doesn' t get any better than this.
No, you will not have Hubert for the next 10 years. However, whatever time you have will be the absolute best! I try not to be judgemental, but can't imagine how anyone could move and leave this treasure behind.
June 5/16 OMG UI LOVE HIM!! I love older dogs but he is something! Always smiling and happy, likes to lie outside or follow you around.
This dog is for ANYONE who wants a low energy companion who still loves his walks. He would LOVE grandchildren visiting to and has no issues with cats or other dogs.
He has some arthritis and we started him on the INEXPENSIVE HUMAN version of Metacam for like $17/prescriiption instead of $17/dose lol!
Jne 2/16 Hubert arrives on sat and was given up at this age by owners who moved to the states, Like they dont have dogs there???? Like all it takes to bring him is a rabies cert. ,.. *sigh*
He is 10yrs old and would be IDEAL for a family with older kids to play with him, single or couple or retired ppl who want a companion to go for walks and to hang with. He is 80lbs but we have a magic collar that makes walking dogs a breeze. Literally turns them into a wallet or cell phone.
ALL our dogs are HW tested neg (HW TREATED dogs are marked as such), have full vetting paperwork and obviously get along with other dogs since there are about 40 of them here on any given day.
We do a microchip clinic the first Sunday of each month for $40 to raise money to pay the bills for the rescues but will chip on day of adoption.
The Adoption Donation you give includes spay/neuter (except puppies under 6 mos), all shots, Heartworm test, deworming/parasite by us at least once and is $500.
NOTE: Puppies too young to fix are adopted out ON A 'FOSTER TO ADOPT' BASIS ONLY UNTIL S/N COMPLETED and proof is required to have the contract changed to ownership. You are responsible for spaying or neutering at the 6 mo point.
Please, if you want to adopt a dog - we require you take up to 24 hrs 'think about it' time and when an aggreement is reached you take the dog home as within 24 hrs. We can not 'hold' adopted dogs "til the weekend" or you "are back from holidays" UNLESS you wish to make a $40/night donation to cover their stay as there are many, many other dogs dying in shelters who need that space.
For coonhounds and beagles only :
If the dog you just looked at is a Coonhound or Beagle here's a little more info - A lot of people think Coonhounds and Beagles are stupid but they're not! They are just joyous dingbats for sure but very trainable. They are funny, happy clowns. They also do NOT spend all their time howling or baying. They are extremley quiet dogs but when they let one rip everyone knows it ;-)) and the sound is beautiful! So much nicer than a high pitched yap any day.

Rude owner of the company. She is vile and is completely unprofessional in her communication. If it wasn't for the animals, I would say to never give her money.
