Izzy is being fostered in New Brunswick
Izzy, is a puppy mill survivor!! She was rescued from a shelter in Louisiana. She came to Canada in November 2014, a dog totally petrified of the world, people, had no idea what it was like to live free and in a home, eating good food on a regular basis, she didn’t trust anyone. The one thing that Izzy had in her favor, was that she has a lot of self-confidence, amazing with other dogs and absolutely no aggression. Since being in foster care, her foster siblings have taken her under their care, and she has transformed into this wonderful dog she always was. For the first six months, Izzy wouldn’t come to me, now she sleeps with me, she walks on a leash nicely, she goes on group dog walks with all sizes of dogs, and she is almost fully housetrained. While still shy of strangers, she quickly warms up to the person.
Izzy is approximately five years old, a JRT/Rat Terrier mix. She sits on command for her treats, she is starting to recognize commands such as “in”, “off” and “walkies”, and I am working at clicker training to teach her other little tricks, she is a very keen and quick learner. Izzy’s only vice is paper products, she loves toilet rolls, random boxes, and magazines are not safe J
Izzy will need a very patient and understanding home, someone that will let her adjust at her own pace but continue to train with her. She has a very high prey drive, and because of that she should not be placed in a home with cats or small animals (dogs are fine). Due to her timid behavior, the ideal home should have another dog, no children under the age of 10. Izzy cannot go off leash, and is classified as a high flight risk. In her foster home, these things do not deter Izzy from enjoying life as any other dog that is not a flight risk, a little more care around doorways are required, and a firm grip on the leash and supervision in the fenced backyard.
Please do not pass over Izzy because she is a puppy mill survivor, she can offer a home so much! Living with Izzy is very easy and a great joy. Each day with her is like opening a present on Christmas morning as it’s truly a gift to watch her blossom.
