" The owners of Jackson, and the farm, wanted a puppy however due to the hectic nature of the farm they are unable to work with him, thus he has developed the bad behavior of chasing the cows (because it is fun) and the cars. A couple of months back he had the misfortune of being caught between the cattle trailer and truck and was injured -- hairline fracture in his hip & leg; sprained both front paws. We've nursed him back to health and he's back to playing and being a puppy...and chasing the cows/cars again.
He has been exposed to two year old twins and high school students through 4H. He is fine with small children, but after the accident he is afraid of people initially. It takes about 3 to 5 minutes for him to warm up to a new person. He has been good with the other dogs at the farm and neighbors dogs. No issues to date. He lives with about 10 cats, 50 chickens, 4 peacocks, 6 ducks and a guinea. He is fine with them all. He and the cats like to play together. He loves to run! And he loves to play chase.
Ideal home would be: A home who was willing to devote the attention and time needed for a shepherd/hound mix. He has a lot of energy so it would have to be someone who is active. Not sure how you guys feel about hunting, but I think he'd make a great flushing dog. He does it naturally when we go on walks but is still able to differentiate between birds in the wild and birds on the farm."
