John is house trained and paper trained (he also uses puppy pads indoors). He is crate trained and happily sleeps in his crate with the door open or closed. He is very submissive to others and gets along well with other small dogs but will insist on getting the most attention. This may affect hierarchy in another pack, but he will quickly defer to the alpha. He would probably love to be an only dog, as he would get all the attention, but he will get along with other dogs his size provided they don't bully him as he can be skittish. He is reticent to lick faces but easily licks hands and craves petting and attention. He doesn't play much with toys but will play easily if you lightly wrestle and pet him on the ground. He enjoys being carried and will sit quietly in a lap for hours. I've only heard him bark once. He walks well on a leash and stays on the right side. He prefers indoors, a quiet home and lots of affection.
John is current on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He has tested negative for heartworms. Current on heartworm preventative and flea preventative.
If you are interested, please fill out a Dog Adoption Application
Our adoptions include a foster period of 4-6 weeks so that you can be sure that this pet is a good fit without any pressure, and we are available to answer any behavior or training questions during that time (and beyond, if you wish).
** Local adoptions preferred (within Greater New Orleans area and surrounding parishes). We do not ship animals, as a part of our adoption process is for the potential adopter(s) to meet the dog to assess if he/she is a match for the family.
