My name is Journey. This is my story. I live in Cha Am, 2 hours outsi de of Bangkok, Thailand. I live in a landfill trash dump site, along with a thousand other dogs. This is the only home I have ever known. It is very difficult for all of us to find food and one day when I was searching, I was struck in the leg with a large piece of scrap metal. Living out here is hard enough and many of us do not make it, but once injured, survival becomes almost impossible. Luck was on my side when a rescuer saw my injury and took me to the vet. They determined my leg was too badly damaged and amputation was my only hope. After I healed, there was nowhere for me to go, so I was returned to my home at the landfill. Finding food and protecting myself became even more difficult with only three legs, and I knew my life would not be a long one. Every day has been a struggle and yet I try to keep a smile on my face and hope for a better future.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I now know it's worth much more than that.
My picture saved my life.
LIFE spotted my photo from the thousands of others, and felt my pain. An amazing rescuer in Thailand was contacted and immediately went to my landfill to try to find me through the rubble and hundreds upon hundreds of other dogs. And find me she did!
I went to the vet and awaited transport to Bangkok, where I stayed until today- October 6, 2016- the day I travel to America, and the land where I am told dreams can come true and I could find a real family. I don't even know what that is, but it sounds happy and filled with love.
