Leila is a 13-year-old female surrendered about 7 months ago when her family called to say they couldn’t keep her anymore. When told that the only place available would be a small confined area until she acclimated to her new environment, they said that’s better what than she had with them. If we didn’t take her she was going on the street or to a shelter. We had no comment and knew her only chance was with us.
We lovingly took her in and made her as comfortable as possible, Leila was very scared but the issue is she has not been able to adjust. She stays in the same spot all day and only moves to get her food. Since then she has also started developing a nervous lick which has caused her to lose hair on her stomach, hind legs and ears. Since we can’t be completely sure what the cause is we have started to feed her a more ingredient sensitive diet. She is 17 pounds and gets no movement because she is too afraid to interact. Her only source of pleasure is feeding time.
Leila desperately needs a quiet loving home where there are no other animals and she is at peace to roam. She does like soft touches and at times she may hiss but never swats or tries to bite. She came to us with her front paws declawed. When taken to the vet she allows petting and has curled up with our volunteer for safety. She also engages and plays with our two volunteers assigned to work with her one-on-one. But she needs consistency, and a very special and caring human willing to give her time. She needs a home where she can enjoy the remaining years of her life. It’s not easy for an older gal like Leila to adjust to the type of environment in the shop where so much action takes place every day. If you are able to give Leila the love and care she needs and deserves, please consider opening your home either through foster or adoption. We will support you through a joint partnership and help with medical expenses ongoing if needed. Please share Leila’s story as we know we have to look extra hard to find her forever home.
