DOB: 8/12/10
Little Dude (CF7490) was born about August 12, 2010, He is a gray male domestic shorthair. He's a big boy at 18 pounds. He had been overfed and was 25 pounds in February, but he has been on a restricted diet and has lost 7 pounds since. My brother, distraught from the long illness and passing of his wife, and his subsequent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, fed his two cats whenever he ate and they gained weight. While he was in the hospital, they had been cared for twice a day, for two months, but my brother's friend, who fed them what my brother had been feeding them, until I went to Pennsylvania to bring my brother and them here to care for my brother in his final days.
I first met Little Dude in February, 2016 and he took to me right away.
He always met me at the door. He was disheveled and his fur was matted, but he sat and let me brush him everyday to get more and more of the tangles out. My brother had heard that he and another cat had been tossed into a park, in January weather in Pennsylvania, and he rescued both of them when Little Dude was only five months old and five pounds.
Little Dude used to lay on my brother's bed, near him, during all the tragedy of the last few years of my brother's life. He is very fond of sitting, or laying, near his humans.
Little Dude is afraid of new things, but he adapts quickly, except for Great Danes. My brother said that they had small dogs, at one time, and everyone got along, but I think that was when Little Dude was a baby.
He definitely does not like my Great Dane, so I would be hesitant to recommend him to a family who also has dogs.
Little Dude gets excited during play and, on occasion, has tried to nip. He never did that when I was spending 10-12 hours a day in his company, for the three weeks that I was at my brother's home in Pennsylvania, so I think he might be reacting to a need for more social interaction. Because of his dislike of my dog, we have had to keep them separated. It was alright when he stayed in my brother's room here and had constant human company, but, since my brother's passing, he needs more human interaction than what he's getting. He has my brother's female cat as a companion, but he always settled down whenever my brother was home from his hospital stays. However, until he has more social interaction, I would be hesitant to recommend him to a family with small children.
He's really a sweet cat and he's a loud purrer! He loves being brushed and having the underside of his chin scratched. When I block my dog in a room, so that the cats can come out to play, he is curious, but he really just wants to sit by me in companionship.
