Luca is a wonderful girl! She's spunky and vibrant but also settles well during quiet times in the house. She's crate trained, potty trained, good with other dogs of all sizes, eager to please, and walks relatively well on leash. Her favorite game is fetch with a tennis ball, and offering sits to her humans in exchange for tasty cookies. She truely is a diamond in the rough!
Currently, in her Bay Area foster home, Luca is being trained to be a Diabetes Alert Dog; which means she'll be able to warn a Type 1 Diabetic to rapidly changing blood glucose numbers before they reach dangerous levels. She was chosen as one of two dogs from Animal Compassion Team to take part in a pilot program where rescue dogs are fostered and trained as Diabetes Alert Dogs Once her training is complete, Luca will be looking for her very own insulin-dependant diabetic to keep tabs on. If you would like to learn more about Luca's training and/or what Diabetes Alert Dogs can do, please email her Foster Parents, Erica and Alex, at or visit to learn about adoption qualifications. She can't wait to meet you!
