Meet Lucky! Lucky is a super special boy and he got a very appropriate name. Lucky was just about to be put to sleep at a high kill shelter in GA and the Last Resort saved his life in the nick of time. It’s a good thing because he has such a gentle spirit and is so sweet. The vet said he believes Lucky is about 4 years old. He’s pretty mellow, so he could be a little older but not by much. He is a 55 lb Shepherd mix. We are hoping there will be a special soul out there that will want to bring Lucky into their home. We think Lucky was probably an outdoor only dog in his previous life, but he is very sweet so we believe someone must have loved him at some time. However, they didn’t love him enough to give him his monthly Heartworm prevention so sadly, Lucky is Heartworm positive. That’s really not a big deal though as we will treat him until he becomes negative, at the cost of the rescue. Unfortunately, Lucky has also developed seizures and is currently being treated with Phenobarbital. We will work to get his medication adjusted so he can continue to be the awesome boy that he is. Lucky loves everyone and everything – he is great with other dogs and just loves being around them. He is super with people also and is really coming out of his shell. He was shy in the beginning but now he just follows his foster mom around. Lucky is very food motivated and knows to sit and sit pretty for food. Lucky is a gentle soul and there’s not a mean bone in his body. He does well in his crate and is starting to become more playful now that we are getting his medication on track. Lucky is potty trained. We would like for Lucky to be adopted by someone with other dogs and a fenced in yard. He does very well on a leash also. Lucky is neutered and current on vaccines. He is in foster care in GA but can be transported to MD or NJ for an approved Adopter. Please give him a chance. He just wants someone to love him and make him a part of their family forever.
Update from foster mom on 8/6/16: Wow - we thought his name was Lucky but really whoever adopts this gentle boy will be the LUCKY one! He is so special and so sweet. He's not crated at night and doesn't get on the furniture at all. He loves his tennis ball more than anything in the world and loves carrying around his stuffed bear. He is a gentle soul with a huge heart and he would love to find his forever home.
