Luke is a friendly happy-go-lucky goofball who will be a ray of sunshine for his new family. He arrived as a stray but has shown us that it's just a matter of consistency and time before he becomes a great pet.
Luke isn't too excited about the loud kennel environment at the shelter, and we don't blame him. Once we get him away from the shelter, he is a much more fun, confident dog. He walks well on a leash and knows some basic commands. He loves to play with stuffed toys and would certainly appreciate having some in his new home. He still has some youthful exuberance as well - he enjoys a good romp in the yard, always with a smile on his face. Did we mention this boy is crate trained, too?!
We love Luke's happy, silly temperament. He makes friends very quickly, both human and canine. He doesn't seem to have had a lot of experience around other dogs, but he certainly enjoys their company and is learning to understand their body language so he can be a good playmate. He might be able to share a home with a well-matched mate. His size might not make him the best fit for a home with small kids, but a family with older children who can help keep him engaged might be good.
Luke's ideal home will be able to keep him active, and also provide boundaries and good leadership for him. With some consistency in his life, we think Luke will turn into a great companion. And don't forget that APA's behavioral team will be available to help with any questions. Plus, remember that you'll also let us free up space so that another dog can join us at APA!
