Luke is a 9-year-old Rat Terrier known in his foster home as "the gentleman." Weighing about 25 lbs., he's large and muscular with a very sweet, laid-back disposition. He shares his foster home with several other dogs his size, and he gets along fine with all of them. In fact, Luke will do best where he has another easygoing dog his size to keep him company as he’s always lived with another dog. He is a little hesitant with new situations and noises but becomes more comfortable in his new surroundings each day. Luke is crate trained but prefers to sleep loose in the house, and now that he's more settled, he can be trusted to sleep in his spot on the couch at night without any potty accidents. Luke loves to go for walks and would love a forever home where he could get out and do some long walks on trails. He would be a wonderful hiking partner, and his personality comes alive when he is exploring outside. Luke also loves to go for car rides, staying quietly in his crate without getting carsick. He’s not a barker and thus far has no interest in the birds or squirrels that frequent the yard of his foster home. He loves to sit next to his person and be massaged and petted. Luke is more hesitant with men than women, but once you gain his trust, he is a very loyal dog. If he gets startled or feels cornered, he can bite out of fear, so he needs a calm, easygoing family without kids. If you are someone who enjoys being out in nature as well as snuggling on the couch, then Luke may be just the dog for you.
