Lulu is a smart, sweet, affectionate girl who is very devoted to her people. To see her run in an open field is to watch pure animal joy. While she has settled into a happy middle age and is generally mellow (spending her afternoons cozied up in a soft bed or the sunshine), she still has bursts of her younger goofball self and loves to take walks and play in the yard. Lulu prefers women to men, and is definitely a lady's dog, though she has plenty of room in her heart for the men who treat ladies like Lulu with kindly and patiently. She also loves to spend time with other dogs, and has done so in doggie daycare, where she thrives! She also loves popcorn (and catching it mid-air) and fetching sticks.
Lulu is usually nervous/shy in new situations, but once she has made a connection with her human, she is incredibly sweet and affectionate; she tends to make those connections fairly easily (usually with women) and has won hearts at day care, the vet's office, obedience class, etc.
In 2015, Lulu suffered a sudden embolism on her spine and was paralyzed from the "waist" down. Despite very long odds; after several weeks of hospitalization, Lulu made a complete recovery and is now referred to at the vet hospital as "our miracle dog." The only lingering evidence of her former paralysis is that she can still become a bit "tippy" in her rear end when she gets really excited (adding to the goofball effect), and has trouble executing the "sit" command on slick floors. Lulu would be happiest in a home with other dogs and no children.
If you feel your home might be the right place for this wonderful dog, the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter.
Lulu is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so custody and ongoing care are provided by the foster, not by DFWRM.
