We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from CCHS, you have to complete an online application at http://www.collincountyhumanesociety.org/adoption-application.html and we will contact you asap about the status of your application.
Mack is an amazing dog who has really opened up in foster care. He is a better doggie every day, and would do best with a patient, dog-experienced forever family.
Kelpies are extremely smart and can be very intense dogs who appreciate training and regular activity. Mack is building endurance to run his first 5k and has been doing very well with trick training - he usually learns a trick in just a few sessions.
Commands Mack knows: Sit, Down, Shake, High Five, Paw, Paws up. He does well with stay in calm areas, he just started learning roll over. He walks beautifully on a leash - have you ever felt extreme pride walking a dog? That's the feeling one gets walking or running with Mack.
He is housebroken and crate trained, and he's working on some etiquette and positive reinforcement training to address some triggers that make him nervous. He can be cautious with new people, but he is very good natured and responds well to love, treats, and correction.
Mack does well with the resident 2 year old, but does have herding instincts. He does well with the 2 female resident dogs and all dogs he has met in public, large and small. Mack would enjoy a playful pup in his forever home. Mack and the resident 'closet kitty' are very loving together - he is gentle and lets her nuzzle his snout. He prefers women, but is fine with men - a home with a strong pack leader human would be ideal.
Mack is 48 lb., ~2 years old, neutered, and is up to date on vaccinations. Mack has been treated for heartworms. He will need a HW retest on or about 11/15/16 in order to start HW preventatives.
