My name is Marley. I am around 2 years old, a Lab/Retriver mix. I was found tied to a telephone pole on March 14th and was taken to a local shelter. I soon became ill and had a stay in the ICU for a few days - the folks at MMR stepped up and rescued me. They were really worried! Once I went to foster I proved to be super smart - I learned my basic commands in just one morning! I did have a little trouble with impulse control so it was decided I should not go to a home with young children while I worked on my jumping.
Unfortunately, the foster home was only temporary and I had to go to the kennel. Now a small crew of volunteers is working with me frequently to help me learn how to show my excitement without jumping or being mouthy. I am on a carefully planned positive reinforcement training plan that is teaching me focus and patience both with and without distractions. The distractions definitely made a difference. I've come to love and appreciate the volunteers for taking the time to teach me how to be a good boy so the right forever family will find it difficult to pass me over when they're looking for a furry companion. We are now hoping to expand the group of people working with me to see if the work holds up with other people.
It's come to my attention that my stay here in the kennel isn't exactly cheap, so if you can't adopt me, I'd sure appreciate it if you could click on "Sponsor This Pet" and help offset the Rescue's costs! I'm not quite ready for adoption yet, but stay tuned for updates!
