Martin is a sweet, approximately 4 yr old lab mix who weighs about 40lbs. He is in good health per his Nov 15 vet checkup! He does have a minor asthma-like issue when running or playing for long periods, but they do not last long (about 2-3 coughs/wheezes) and does not happen every time.
Martin has lived indoors with other dogs and cats most of his life with no issues in regards to animal or food aggressiveness. He is a friendly, fun-loving guy, very sweet and lovable. He does like to jump and play when seeing you after away for a while, but will happily lounge next to you when in the house. He sometimes plays a bit too rough, as he doesn’t always seem to remember he’s bigger than some of his playmates! He is well mannered inside and is house-trained. Martin can be stubborn sometimes but listens very well once accustomed to the person. He does alert with concerning noises outside at night when indoors, but does not bark excessively.
Outside he likes to run around and relax in his dog house. He is curious and will chase smaller animals when they run (squirrels, birds, etc) but has not had any problems with the cat when in the house with him. They interact very well.
Martin can be wary of meeting new people. He will bark and approach people cautiously until he sniffs and realizes they’ve no ill intent. Some people he takes a little longer to warm up to than others, but has not had issues with anyone once he adjusts to them. He usually does not dig in the yard, but has had a couple of instances where he made him a cooling spot in the summer when outside.
Indoors, he does not mark at all. He’ll let you know he has to go outside by approaching you or standing/running to the door. Martin knows how to sit, lie down, wait/stay and climb up (up). He also can learn boundary areas in the house when taught and reinforced with 'no' if he steps in a certain area. Overall he is an energetic, fun-loving, stubborn yet obedient dog who can live inside or outside without issues.
If you feel your home might be the right place for such a great dog - the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you promptly to tell you more and to arrange a time to meet!
The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter.
Martin is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.
