We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
ARF is pleased to introduce Matt! Matt is a delightful Chihuahua/Pug mix, or a Chug, although Matt's foster mom says he is all Chihuahua! Matt is about 9 weeks old, and currently weighs just over 2 pounds. We think Matt MAYBE might get up to about 4-5 pounds when full grown. He is a tiny little guy that absolutely loves to play and cuddle! He enjoys playing outside for a short period of time, but since he's so tiny, he gets cold, and doesn't like to be out there very long. He gets cold indoors too, and will likely need a shirt/sweater in the Chicago winter. Matt is great about going on a potty pad inside, but is also happy to potty outside when we're out for playtime. He loves following you right at your heels and can easily get underfoot, so you have to watch where he is because he's so tiny! He sleeps in his crate at night with his brother (Sam), and is a happy, quiet sleeper. His foster mom keeps a potty pad in his crate, and he's happy using the potty pad at night and doesn't bark to go out. Matt has a high metabolism and will need to be fed 3 meals a day. He enjoys short play sessions with his foster brother, a pug, and would probably do okay with a calm, small to medium sized dog brother or sister, as long as he can be picked up and cuddled or have a quiet space to go when playtime is over and he's tired. Ultimately, Matt's favorite thing to do is be in your arms, or cuddled up in your lap. Matt is looking for a family where he won't be alone for long periods, and where someone will be available to give him lots of snuggles and cuddles - he really just wants to be held. Families with children under 12 won't be considered due to Matt's tiny, delicate size.
This pup is micro-chipped and up to date on all vaccinations. The new family will be required to have the pup altered by 6 months of age and complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. The pup's adoption fee is $275. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any animal that has not been altered to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today! http://arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. ARF is an all volunteer organization. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved. Thank you for your patience!
If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early,
as we cannot hold animals.
All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs.
