Max here! Hi I'm Max and I'm looking for a new home, as my last family moved out of the country and couldn't take me with them. I am said to resemble a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix that is around 6 years old. I would like nothing more than to be part of a loving family again. I am friendly but a shy boy, so I need a family who will be patient with me until I settle in and my confidence grows. When I get scared I have never tried to bite anyone, I will just run and hide.
I'm okay with other dogs my size but larger ones make me nervous and so do little kids, so no little kids and big dogs for me. It took a few day to get used to me foster mom, but now I follow her around and I love to sit on her lap. I don't like to be by myself and when I am, I whine so, unless my new owners are home a lot I wouldn't make a good apartment living dog. I am house trained but I sometimes will mark when I'm stressed. I am crate trained and working on leash training. I get very nervous when walking on a leash, so a home with a fenced in yard would be best for me, if not you may have to let me drag a leash behind me until I'm more comfortable with everyone and everything. I am low key and not very playful, but who knows how I will be once I know I am safe and loved again!. With my fearfulness, I can be a high risk of trying to escape, so you will have to be very careful with open doors and never let me off leash in an unfenced area. Working with a trainer will help both of us get through the early stages of us getting acquainted, so ask the nice people here - they can help you find a good one! If you are understanding and have what it takes to help me come out of my shell, please fill out an application...I'm ready for a commitment - if you are!
9/5/16 Max is doing MUCH better with strangers and has been to adoption events now. He is a little timid/wary but generally will let strangers approach him and pet him if they go slow. He is also doing amazing with bigger dogs now. He just had to warm up a bit to them. He is crate trained but does occasionally mark. He prefers to sleep in his foster mom's bed (under the covers of course - His poor foster mom is running out of room)!. Max is bit of a food hound - if there is people food anywhere around him, he will do his best to find it and eat it. Max's foster mom says he could learn agility...That is if they hung hamburgers and chicken nuggets around the obstacles!

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
