Max in CT

Great Pyrenees

Large  |  Male

Beacon, NY

Meet Max, a striking, youthful Pyr/Shepherd mix with amazing brown eyes and an endearing happy-go-lucky spirit. He loves to play and expend his spritely, puppy-like energy, but also really enjoys lounging by his people - who are truly the apple of his beautiful eyes. He is totally content to just lay by your feet and bask in your company, as he doesn’t like to be alone. Max is great with other animals and loves to frolic with his foster doggy siblings. He is learning, with the help of these siblings, to temper his dominance and submit, and is doing really great as a member of the pack. Given his penchant for play and company, he would undoubtedly love to have an energetic doggy sibling in his new home. He is fine with cats but does like to give them a little innocent chase outside, which each cat takes to differently :) Max is on the skinny side, so he needs his forever family to help him put on some healthy weight, while also minding the fact that he can be protective of his food around other animals, and will counter surf when no one is looking. He doesn’t know many commands or household protocols yet, as he was never taught, but now with guidance he’s learning quickly by the day and is very eager to please! For example, he now knows how to ‘sit’ and ‘come’ when called, and his foster mommy touts his intelligence. He is also good on a leash and great in car, making him easy to travel or run errands with. He’s not a fan of his crate, but does love his outdoor kennel, though his first preference is to be with his people. He would flourish in a home with adults who have experience training a dog (kids are easily intimidated by his peppy energy and size), and will make for the most wonderful, fun, and loving companion! Max’s adoptive human or family will be very lucky to call him an all-around good boy and sweetheart, and theirs forever!

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes so we know how they will interact with your family. Please consider adopting or fostering. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. Prior to adoption, NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks (usually more), spayed or neutered and fully vetted. Dogs coming from out of area are certified with a USDA health certificate before going to their new homes. Our rescuers adhere to the highest placement standards and will take back any dog whose adoption does not succeed. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
