My name is Hunter and I am a 5-6 year old male Setter,
originally from Huntsville, Alabama. My foster mom
named me Hunter because of where they found me, but
she says my name fits especially well because all I care
about is hunting! I will hunt anything, birds, squirrels,
lizards and CATS! Cats are easy because they are in the
house. My mom says I shouldn’t go to a house with cats
because I make them crazy. I look forward to meeting
you, but I have hunting to do so I’ll let my foster mom
finish telling you all about me, and from what I hear I’m
We have had Hunter since June 11 and we have fallen in
love with him. Hunter is our second foster, and he did
prove to be a bit more challenging than our first. I don’t
think Hunter has ever lived inside, so our first priority was
house training. However, this task did not prove to be too
difficult and he has done really well but, does need to go
outside more than our larger dog. We have been working
on keeping his front paws off of the kitchen counter and
keeping him from counter surfing but Hunter LOVES
people food so this may take a bit longer. He is also
learning to walk on a leash and loves to go for long walks.
I think he would make a great running partner as well; he
has a lot of energy.
Hunter is definitely a ladies man, but seems to like and
trust all people including children. He is fine with other
dogs and plays with our much larger Setter just fine. I
really think Hunter is a setter mix; he is small for a
purebred Setter and his size mimics more of a Brittany.
Hunter weighs in around 30 pounds and probably needs to
put on a few more. When Hunter arrived into rescue he
had been the victim of a flea infestation, but I am happy to
report that condition has been addressed. Hunter still
needs some fur to fill in around his hind end, but with
good food, lots of love, and some time, he will have a
beautiful fluffy rear section. Hunter has been checked out
by a vet and has a clean bill of health, as well as having
already been neutered.
Hunter cannot go to a home with cats, but other dogs
will be just fine. He loves to cuddle and take rides in
the car. I think a home where he would be welcome
on the furniture and beds would be best.
Hunter is being fostered in Florida.
