Mickee came to Ruff Start from down south where he was kept outside for most of his life and used for breeding. He is still adjusting to being an indoor dogs and how amazing it is! He is very sweet, but very reserved and take a while to really come out of his shell in a new environment. His current foster has had him for about a week or so now, and he is making progress everyday with warming up to the family. He will let them handle him and take him outside and put him on her couch, but when he is done sitting with her or being pet, he walks back over to his crate and lays inside. That is his safe place. He is very quiet and sweet, but will need a quieter home that is willing to be patient with him. He does do well with older respectful children.
Another thing that his foster mom is working on with him is his potty training. Unfortunately, being left outside most of his life, he never learned where he can and cannot go to the potty. Right now his foster is using potty pads for him, and he is doing well. We believe that with a little more time, he will always be going outside no problem.
Lastly, with being outside and getting bite by mosquitoes all the time, Mickee contracted heart worm which can be fatal if not treated. He has gone through his heart worm treatments now and will be due to have his 6 month recheck to make sure they worked in January. Because of this he is currently only eligible to do "Foster to Adopt"
Mickee is looking forward to meeting you!
