Meet Misty Buzz! She is one gorgeous girl!
Misty is one of four in the Buzz litter. They appear to be a Labrador Retriever mix about 5 to 6 months old who were picked up as strays. Misty initially was hard to catch and went back to where she was living. She was brought back to Animal Control by the person who had her and who had been trying to place the puppies for months without success. Misty is all black and is currently about 32 and a half pounds and is most likely going to be a medium to large sized dog. Being a puppy still, she'll need to be house trained and crate trained, but is doing well with learning to walk on a leash. As with all our dogs and especially puppies, we strongly recommend they attend obedience classes because it not only offers opportunities for them to learn commands, have some socialization and build their confidence, but it also helps strengthen that all-important bond between the pup and her human family. And a well-behaved dog is welcomed most anywhere you take them! Misty's energy level and exercise requirements are moderate to high and though a fenced yard would be ideal for her to get the exercise she needs, if a yard isn't available then plenty of daily leash walks and lots of opportunity for off-leash play at a dog park will work to tire her out. Dogs of all ages also need mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Misty has been with other dogs her size as well as those who were smaller and larger and has been fine. She hasn't been cat-tested, nor has she been around children, but she's friendly and we think she would love kids. She seems to be a bit more shy than her littermates when it comes to people, but once she knows you she's perfectly fine, and she loves other dogs. She has only ridden crated in the car and did get car sick, which is common with puppies and she may outgrow this. If not you can talk to your vet about things you can do to deal with car sickness. Misty seems smart, eager to please and affectionate, gentle - and at times, puppy-goofy. A home with good leadership and training will make her the super family member she's meant to be.
Are you ready for some puppy action? Do you have the time, energy and patience to deal with all a puppy's antics? Most important of all, do you have the love that Misty's longing for? Then fill out an application today and get ready for some puppy-wonderful times ahead!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment and her coat is improving. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
