Nahlia

Retriever

Medium  |  Female

Washington, dc

Retriever mix, Female, 7 years old, 45 lbs

Name: Nahlia
Suspected Breed(s): Retriever mix
Gender: Female
Age: 7 years old
Weight: 45 lbs
Personality: Calm, Quiet, Ambivalent, Friendly, Affectionate, Smart, Adaptable, Gentle, Snuggler, Shy, Trainable
Observations with Dogs: Loves dogs! Nahlia adores other dogs. At her foster homes, she loves to cuddle with canine friends. She definitely seems to come out of shell when hanging out with her dog sibling! Nahlia would really benefit from being in a house with another dog.
Observations with Cats: Ignored shelter cats and does fine with the cats in her current foster home.
Observations with Kids: Not tested. Nahlia is pretty skittish, so she would probably do best in a home without young children.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Good in crate. Nahlia is crated during the day but at night is happy either to sleep in the bed with her foster parents or in a dog bed.
Location: DC area foster
Rescued From: Columbus Co, NC
Additional Information: Nahlia is a precious senior dog who is excited for retirement with the occasional exercise. She is timid and it takes her a little time to warm up to new situations and new people. Once she trusts you, she’s extremely loving and loyal! Nahlia loves other dogs and would do well in a home with a canine friend. She doesn’t desire much – just snuggles, short walks, movie nights on the couch, and snacks (she loves her treats!). Nahlia is skittish of loud noises and would do best in a quiet neighborhood outside of the city. She is good in a crate and does not have accidents. Nahlia will make a wonderful addition to the right family (perhaps not one with young children) who is willing to work with her a bit and give her lots of love to help her come out of her shell and enjoy her new life!!!
***Nahlia is available for a reduced senior adoption fee of $200***

If you are interested in meeting a dog, we require an adoption application. Visit http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt.html to apply. If a dog has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon.

If a dog has "NEEDS FOSTER" listed, they are still available for adoption. Information about our current dogs in need of fosters can be found here: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/current-dogs-in-need-of-a-foster.html and the application to foster is here: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster.html.

City Dogs Rescue is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Prior to arrival, all of our dogs are spayed/neutered (unless specified) and given shots for Rabies, Distemper DHPP, and Bordatella. They are tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia. They are dewormed at least twice and given a health check by the vet. Most dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken or crate trained. Our adoption fee is $395 (including puppies) unless noted -- senior dogs are available for an adoption fee of $200.

We also update our Facebook page daily with new dogs.

City Dogs Rescue is a rescue, not a shelter, and our dogs are located in temporary foster homes in the Washington, DC metro region. Adoption fee, home visit, and application required. CDR charges an adoption fee of $395 unless specified. This fee typically includes health care provided before adoption: all age-appropriate rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention prior to adoption, spay/neuter procedure, microchip when available, SNAP test for parasites, initial health check vet visit when going from the municipal shelter to City Dogs Rescue, and pre-adoption health care for dogs over the age of 1 year as needed. For puppies too young for spay/neuter: The fee is the same but does not include the cost of spaying and neutering.
