I’m Nika! I am approximately a year old. Currently I’m hanging out with 2 SGSR alums and another SGSR foster (and it’s loads of fun!) but I really want to find my forever home.
Like most GSDs, I am very eager to please, but I am still learning how to be the best dog I can be. My foster mom says that I have a heart of gold and just want love and acceptance. I need someone who understands that I am slow to open up, but that I am worth the wait! My foster dad, in particular, has fallen in love with me. Since I am in a home with 3 other dogs, he makes sure I get a quiet moment or two each day with him so that I can learn how special I am. At first I was shy, but now I roll over for tummy rubs whenever we get a little time away from the crew.
I have tons of energy so I would do best in an active home with a big yard. Though honestly, I really want to be where everyone else is. I know how to sit very well, and if I think you might have a treat in your hand I do it just in case! I need some more practice on leash, though with a harness I am actually pretty good at it. I am completely housebroken, which foster mom says is fantastic.
Though I am quickly learning that this is not okay, I can get a little mouthy. Foster mom tells me that this is not how to communicate with people, so I just need to go to a home where my forever family can continue to work with me on this little habit of mine. In fact, foster mom thinks I would be a great candidate for formal training. She has been working with me while I am here, and says it is a great way to bond with me. I really want to make her happy, she just has to help me understand how!
I am the kind of girl that will give you her heart if you give me yours. I hope that I can find my forever home soon. Though I might be a little nervous at first, I settle in quickly and just want to be a part of the family.
Interested in giving me the chance I deserve? Let your adoption coordinator know. I’m being fostered in TN.

Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrescue@gmail.com .
