Summary: This is reported to be Nono's first time out of the home. He whined continually throughout the assessment. Body low, tail low, tries to stay close to handler; because of his anxious behavior and inability to relax/settle fully, the behavior department believes Nono may benefit best from an experienced adopter. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Nono to new and unfamiliar situations. A decompression period is advised to aid in acclimating Nono to a new home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/10/2016 During his initial medical examination, Nono appeared a bit tense though tolerated all handling without issue.
ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience
Profile BASIC INFO Taina A1093000 and Nono A1092998 are Chihuahua shorthair Mix. Taina was bought from someone in the street, and Nono is Tainas son. The main reason for surrender is that the owner is allergic to the dogs. They do not have any health concerns.
SOCIALIZATION Both dogs are very friendly with strangers. They have not lived with children, but are very calm, relaxed and playful when young children visit. They have lived with each other and are respectful of one another. They have never bitten anyone.
BEHAVIOR They do get anxious when left alone. During storms or fireworks, they hide. They allow you to take away their food bowl, water bowl, or toy away. They are not bothered if you push them off the furniture. They do resist if you try to bathe them. If an unfamiliar approaches the doorway, they bark.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Both dogs are best described as friendly, affectionate and playful. They have a very high activity level. Nono and Taina love to play. They enjoy playing with stuffed toys. They have been kept mostly indoors. Today is Nono's first day outside. They sleep on a doggy bed. They both eat Pedigree. They are house trained and go on wee-wee pads. When left alone, they are well behaved. For exercise, they play with each other.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE They both allowed all handling, collaring and photos.

Please go to our site http://zanisfurryfriends.org
fill out an application and return to firstname.lastname@example.org
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at email@example.com and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet. It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Sundays usually and some Saturdays. Follow us on FB for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered.
