Pacolet, SC

Thank you for your interest in a rescued dog. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.
We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.
Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list.

Date into Rescue: 12/31/2015
Reason for being in rescue: Owner release
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? yes, Opie tested positive for heartworms. He has just completed his heartworm treatment using the fast kill method which consists of three immiticide injections and four to six weeks of crate rest. Opie will be retested for heartworms six months after completion of treatment. Opie will need to be on a monthly ivermectin based heartworm preventative for the rest of his life. We encourage all potential adopters to research heartworms and treatment protocols to gain a better understanding of heartworms and why a monthly preventative is so important!
Weight: est 45 lbs
Height: est 22"
Adoption Fee: $200
Fence needed: no, but he would love one!
Opie is a goofy hound mix with a loving and playful disposition. He loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to go outside and play with his many canine companions. Opie and his other hound friends love to engage in rough play and Opie likes to growl a lot when he plays, but it is all in good fun! Opie knows how to sit, and is also crate trained and runs right in his crate. Opie loves people and always greets them cheerfully.
Opie came to CPR severely underweight, dehydrated, and a victim of neglect and abuse. We put him on a strict diet to gain weight and prevent refeeding syndrome and slowly nursed Opie back to a healthy weight. Despite his condition, Opie was (and still is), very loving and upbeat, wanting to play with his tennis ball while out on potty breaks. Opie does resource guard his food, but considering his past of not knowing when his next meal would come it's not surprising that he would be protective of his food.
The perfect home for Opie would be an experienced adopter that will continue to work and train with him through his resource guarding issues. Opie would love an active owner to go for daily walks, hikes or jogs. He would do well in a home with another large dog to play with or as an only dog!
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
My age: est birthday 2/2/2014
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.
To apply, please visit our webpage at and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.
Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
