Foster Home Feedback
10/9/16 Volunteer Feedback: We've had Patches this weekend and he is a super sweet boy. He does need a full day to warm up and get used to you; however, once he does, he will follow you everywhere and you'll become his comfort. We have two dogs and he seems honestly indifferent to them. He's more concerned with where his person is than anything else.
We have a fenced yard and I think that would be the best for him as he likes to wonder around the yard and take in all the scents. We don't have a super quiet neighborhood due to construction around us and he's grown used to the noises already, so he does get accustomed to his surroundings given a little time. Patches would do best with a quiet home with no young kids, because sudden noises and movements do startle him.
He is super gentle and his fur is incredibly soft. Are you able to give this sweet guy a forever home? Fill out an application today! He's waiting to call you his own.

8/6/16: Meet Patches, the one-eyed wonder mutt!! He also goes by "Patches Pants" and "Goober." This guy has so much love to give, but he is definitely a "work in progress" (but aren't we all?) He needs a patient owner that's willing to help him get past his fears, specifically his fear of strangers. I've had Patches in my home for 3 weeks now and he bonded with me very quickly, but he is very nervous and distrustful of strangers, both inside the home and out. His primary response is to try to flee the situation, but occasionally he will just freeze. We're working on trying to equate strangers with good things, like treats, to help him feel more relaxed when people he doesn't know are present. We've been attending training sessions at Down Dog Studio on Saturdays to get him more exposed to new people and situations and also to work on general obedience to help him feel more confident as well. He's very smart, if not a little stubborn at times, but I've seen him make so much progress already.
Patches gets along great with my dog and also my geriatric cat. He also hangs around two young, active cats from time to time and has been respectful of them as well. It is highly recommended that he be adopted into a home that already has a dog, as having a dog buddy seems to help his confidence immensely. I haven't seen him around children, but I really wouldn't recommend them for him. I think he would do better in a quiet, laid-back home with not a lot of chaos and the constant coming and going of visitors to overwhelm him. That being said, he's a young, active dog that loves to go for walks and would love a fenced in yard to play in, though he currently lives in a tri-plex without a yard and is doing fine with several walks a day. Aside from being weary of strangers on the sidewalk or trail, Patches walks well on the leash using an "easy walk" harness. He also rides well in the car and is kennel trained. His kennel has become his safe space and he'll go lie in it while I'm vacuuming for example. Also, whenever he sees me getting ready to leave, he'll go lie down in it before I'm even ready to go, just patiently waiting for his treats.
All in all, Patches is a very sweet, goofy, fun-loving dog and I have no doubts that he will bond to his new family members quickly, but it will take a patient family willing to invest in him to help him realize the rest of the world isn't so scary. I guarantee your returns on your investment will be well worth it to see Patches reach his full potential.
